done in oils, about 10x10. I will be doing a whole series on child soldiers. They do not belong in the war arena, but they are everywere on this earth. Forced into war like slaves, I can not help but think how these children will grow up into men. They have no choice but to know hatred and death. The original painting is SOLD! (to the curator of the Art, War & Peace Museum :D )

Many never see manhood, and you have to wonder if this ghostly figure will wander the battlefield till the very end. Very sad piece....well done.

alas, true words! Thank you for the compliment on the piece though. When I was looking for sources for these pieces, there were many more photos available to work from! Therefore, I will probably make this my next big series. Make as many of these child portraits as possible to really get the point across that there are too many of them in the world.

It's intense, it's powerful, it's an exhiliratingly beautiful painting. What brilliant choice of colors u used. Those brooding reds & greens here are so right for the portrait cause they are indeed the colors of war (military & bloodshed). They convey the grave situation so aggressively. They drive the point home. A lot of viewers are gonna feel this.

We live with a lot of unfairness in this world but a kid forced to go to war is just wrong.

Exactly the responce I want viewers to get!! Thank you for the detailed critique! I could use ideas such as yours to speak about my work further with others. I see you use color to express ideas a lot as well.

thanks for the great comment. :D

This is an incredible picture. Vivid, harsh, yet soft at the same time. Beautiful colour scheme. The expression on the child's face mixed with the rifle makes the enormity of situations such as this hit the viewer strongly.

thank you so much for the kind words! It's great to hear such strong and vivid feedback. :)

Great colors, they really capture the emotion. The eyes are big, almost lifeless looking... was that the intention?
:iconart-fire:
The eyes I might have made only slightly bigger to emphasis that he is a child, but I guess in a way, the lifelessness in his eyes can also show the brainwashed soul beneath. Thank you for the feedback! Much appreciated

They don't all grow up to be monsters. At least not my dad and uncles. I can say the same for my grandfathers.

I really like the way you play with colors. I kept thinking your pieces were film negatives because of the colors and how much detail you put into value. They look very "sharp" I guess you can say, like a photograph. :)
